MCT-125 was in-licensed from Amarin Corporation in January 2006 (previously named LAX-202 while held by Amarin) for the treatment of fatigue in patients suffering from MS. In a 138-patient, multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase IIa clinical trial conducted in the U.K. by Amarin, the compound demonstrated efficacy in significantly reducing the levels of fatigue in MS patients enrolled in the study. MCT-125 proved to be effective within four weeks of the first daily oral dosing and demonstrated efficacy in MS patients who were moderately as well as severely affected. The compound demonstrated efficacy in all MS patient sub-populations including RR-MS, SP-MS, and PP-MS. Patients enrolled in the Phase IIa trial conducted by Amarin also reported few if any side effects following daily oral dosing. MultiCell is scheduled to commence a pivotal Phase IIb/III study for MCT-125 in 2007.
